You Don’t Have To Be An Expert

Lesson 9 Module 2

I know what you might be thinking, I'm not an expert!

One of the big stumbling blocks new bloggers have is this belief that you need to be an expert in order to blog about something.

This is not true.

You don’t have to be an expert. Nobody is an expert. We are all in the process of learning more.

BE ONE STEP AHEAD

While you don't need to be an expert, you do have to be further along the path than your readers are.

For example, you might not be the healthiest person in the world, but you know enough to teach others about making healthy homemade meals.

You might not be the richest person in town, but you did claw your way out of student loan debt and buy a house with your unique budgeting system.

SOLVE A PROBLEM

What problem can you solve? What have you overcome in life or achieved?

This could be how to lose weight, how to advance in your career, how to plan a wedding, how to take awesome pictures, how to pass the CPA exam, even how to find true love!

SELL A TRANSFORMATION

Everybody wants to become a better version of themselves.

Your blog should take the reader through a transformation.

  • Transform your money.
  • Transform your health.
  • Transform your home.
  • Transform your body.

Start your blog with that premise, with that foundation. Sell the dream of a better life.

If your blog does this, you will never be short on cash or customers.

THE PROBLEM WITH BEING AN EXPERT

If you are not an expert, you are in a perfect position to help someone.

When I'm learning something new, the last place I go to learn is a textbook. I want to learn from someone who is just like me. I want to learn from someone I can relate to. I want to learn from someone who has had my problem and overcame it.

In school if you had a question about a math formula, would you want the genius math teacher to explain it to you? Or... would you rather have a classmate explain it to you?

I'll take the smart classmate any day. Why?

Because they have a level of compassion towards you, because they've been there and know what you're going through. And, they will use language that's on your level to explain it.
