My Journey To Become A Six Figure Blogger
My journey as a blogger has taken me from failure all the way to a six figure income. While everybody's journey will be different, don't let anyone tell you it's not possible to make money blogging.
Here's how I got started.
I was looking for a way to make money online so I could stay at home and help raise my daughter. Blogging sounded like the perfect fit. The freedom that blogging gives you is amazing and it's something I've always dreamed of.
I started with no blogging experience and only a dream of making money online. I didn't know much about blogging but I knew it could take a while before I made any money with it. Yet I was so convinced I would make it work that I went ALL IN.
I sold our house to raise some money and gave myself one year to make it happen. I left myself with no backup plan if this didn't work out.
mistakes i made with my first blog
I started with a personal finance blog because of the many different ways I could monetize it. I got that part right. Everything else? Not so much. I made mistake after mistake (after mistake).
MAKING MY FIRST $1,000
My first year of blogging was an absolute disaster. I made NOTHING for a whole year and just lived off of the savings I had (which was quickly running out).
I took the money I had left and bought blogging and marketing courses and developed a business blogging plan. I then developed a content marketing strategy. I implemented the strategies I learned and BAM! It started to work and my traffic began to grow.
My first dollar I earned blogging came from a company who sent me an email out of the blue. They wanted to pay me $125 to place an article on my blog.
I was like, uh, you want to pay me AND give me free content? I said sure why not!
The money was barely trickling in, but it felt so good to make a few bucks. I then made sure to put up a contact page so other advertisers could contact me.
I started listing my blog in advertiser marketplaces so other companies could also contact me.
Soon enough, I had a banner ad on the homepage sold, a few text links and some sponsored posts too.
After growing my traffic on Pinterest (thanks to using Tailwind) I placed some Google Adsense ads on my blog too and a few months later was making a consistent $1,000 per month.
BECOMING A SIX FIGURE BLOGGER
Okay so now you know how I made my first few bucks with a blog. But how did I manage to earn a full time income blogging?
I realized that $1,000 per month wasn't going to get me anywhere. Don't get me wrong, I was THRILLED, but you can't live on that kind of money.
I needed to GROW. I thought it would take too long to try and turn my first blog into a six figure blog. I imagined at the time that I'd need to hire some more help or start investing in paid ads.
And... yeah I wasn't about to spend money I barely had on ads. So I came up with an idea.
If I could build ONE successful blog and have it earning a consistent $1,000 per month, I could do this again, right?
So that's exactly what I did. I built a second blog and followed the exact same process.
Guess what happened? Yup, it was making money the FIRST month!
So naturally, I just did it again, and again, and again.
Before I was done, I had a blog network that consisted of 20 blogs!
I would go on Flippa.com and look for established blogs that were neglected and buy those.
I would then build them up with a better design (yeah I used Divi!). I loaded them up with fresh content. I created pins and started getting organic traffic flowing. Then what did I do? I went right back to Flippa.com and sold them!
Yeah I was flipping blogs faster than I can flip a veggie burger! I could buy a blog for $250 and sell it for $2,500 within a few months.
By 2018 I was making $8,000+ per month!
Then what happened? Blogger burnout time! I started selling off my blogs and reducing my portfolio to only my best ones. But by now I had everything running on auto-pilot. So It was time to try something new...
Blogging has totally changed my life. But see, I was not fulfilled. I didn't feel like I was actually helping anybody.
Sure, the money was nice, but it didn't give me real satisfaction. See, blogging about saving money wasn't my passion. My real passion is helping people make money.
So in late July 2018 I started EdwinDollars.com with the aim of helping people start their first blog and make money online.
I have zero interest in helping successful bloggers build an empire and dominate the world. Nope, I want to help people start their first blog. I'm so laser focused on just that type of person because that's where I get real satisfaction.

is blogging still the best way to make money online?
There are countless ways to earn money online.
You can try them all. But what is it going to get you? Lots of hard work and not too much money.
You stand a way better chance of making money by starting a blog.
But don't get it twisted, I don't really mean an online diary where you share your thoughts. A blog is just a website where you post awesome content.
There is no better way of making money online than through starting a blog!
I've been able to generate a six figure income blogging from the comfort of my own home.
WHAT CAN YOU LEARN FROM MY JOURNEY?
Here are the key takeaways from my journey to a six figure income online.
You must evolve your strategies through the years. When I started Facebook pages were hot and Pinterest was nothing more than recipes and gardening. Nothing lasts forever. Keep changing and adapting with the times. You don't want to be the last person at the video rental store turning off the lights.
- 2There are no shortcuts
There is no shortcut to success. In my blogging course I don't provide any gimmicks to making money. You've got to put in the work if you want to see results.
- 3it's not too late
It's never too late. In fact, this very blog you're reading right now started in late July 2018.
- 4hard work beats talent
Perseverance is a pretty cool thing in my opinion. Because even if you're not that talented as others, you can win if you just keep working hard.
- 5FAIling doesn't make you a loser, quitting does
I've lost a lot. In fact, I'm fairly certain I'll lose again! But you've got to go head-first anyway and believe in yourself. Failing, after all, isn't really failing. It's just learning the wrong way to do things.
